Jane Anne (Shaffer) Arbogast
1930 – 2022
Jane Anne Arbogast, 91, of Mechanicsburg, passed away on Monday, September 26, 2022.
Jane Anne was born on November 17, 1930 in Shamokin to Kimber and Dorothy (Palmer) Shaffer. She graduated from Shamokin High School in 1948, was a proud Shamokin Greyhound alumni, and stayed active in the Alumni Association. By her own admission, she grew up a poor, but was a very pampered coal miner’s daughter.
In 1953, Jane Anne married William C. Arbogast who passed away in September 1984. Jane Anne and husband Bill moved to Mechanicsburg in 1953 where they put down roots and raised their three children; Bill, Kathy, and Bobby. Jane Anne was extraordinarily dedicated to her family. She planned family trips to NYC, Cherrystone Campground, Navy and Notre Dame football games, as well as trying to attend every football, baseball, basketball, field hockey, ice hockey, color guard competition, band and choir concert in which her children and grandchildren were involved. While she was less than 5 feet tall and weighed less than 100 pounds, she made up for her tiny stature with abundant, sometimes unfiltered, attitude.
Through the years Jane Anne worked at Holy Spirit Hospital, Book of the Month Club, Saint Mark’s Lutheran Church, Preis Finance, Kessler’s Meats, and Experienced Works. Jane Anne was a long-time member of Saint Mark’s Lutheran Church in Mechanicsburg where she served as Church Secretary and lended her musical talents to the Sunday school. She was also a founding Board member for the Arbogast Foundation, a family 501(c)3 charity dedicated to helping make miracles happen for pediatric medical patients.
In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by brothers, Francis and Kimber Jr., and son Bobby who passed away in 2021. Jane Anne is survived by son Bill Arbogast and wife Jeanette of Mechanicsburg, daughter Kathy Witters and husband Tim of Mechanicsburg, daughter-in law Mary Arbogast of Bendersville, brother Bill and wife Marlene Shaffer of South Hadley, MA, sister Winnie Hall of Annapolis, MD, and sister-in-law Anita Shaffer of Shamokin, PA. In addition, Jane Anne is survived by eight grandchildren; Matt Witters, LeAnn Gardner, Seth Arbogast, Brandon Bransted, Courtney Arbogast, Shea Arbogast, Kassie Hammaker, and Brice Arbogast. That’s followed by nine great-grandchildren.
