Alfred “AJ” Campanella, Jr., 46, of Mechanicsburg and formerly of Honesdale died at Holy Spirit Hospital and surrounded by his loving family on Friday, April 27, 2012, after a 10 year battle with Multiple Sclerosis during which he never complained.  He was born in Westover, MA on Thursday, November 4, 1965, son of Elizabeth Hope (Latourette) Campanella who survives him and the late Alfred “Al” Campanella, Sr.

AJ was a great jokester. He was obsessed with Fox News , watching it until the very end. AJ had a sincere love of the military and was a huge history and WWII buff. He was an avid sports fan following the Dodgers , Vikings and the Nebraska Corn Huskers carefully. The Scorpions and Bob Seger were his favorite musical artists. AJ loved little kids and adored his niece, Myranda.

AJ’s survivors include his loving family, including his mother: Elizabeth “Betty” Hope (Latourette) Campanella of Mechanicsburg; his sister: Jennifer Ann Campanella; and his niece: Myranda Michelle Campanella. Among those preceding AJ in death are his father, Alfred “Al” Campanella Sr., and his sister, Jean Marie Campanella.

All are welcome to join AJ’s family at his gathering of family and friends on Thursday, May 3, 2012, from 9:30 until time of prayer service at 10:00 which will be followed by a time of remembrance from 10:15 to 10:45 at Myers–Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory , 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA, 17055. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church , 400 East Simpson Street, Mechanicsburg, PA, 17055, with Rev. David Hereshko celebrating.

A service of farewell, to be held outside the church, will immediately follow the mass where military honors will be presented by the Cumberland County Honor Guard . Honored to be AJ’s urn bearers are his sister, Jennifer, and his niece, Myranda. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. Cremation was private. AJ’s family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship at the Community Center of Graham Hill Apartments following the service of farewell.

The family respectfully asks that contributions be made to Myers–Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory , 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA, 17055, to help defray AJ’s final expenses.
