A Good Father & Loving Husband -

Alfred “Al” Eugene Sweigard, age 91, of Mechanicsburg, passed away on Monday, February 28, 2022.  Al was born on Sunday, December 28, 1930, in Halifax to the late Alvin Ether Sweigard and Ida E. (Wolford) Sweigard.  In addition to his parents, Al is preceded in death by his sister, Margaret Webster; and his brother, David Sweigard.

Al’s survivors include his wife of 66 years, Carol L. (Layne) Sweigard; his two daughters: Susan Sweigard of Mechanicsburg, Sheri L. Conner and husband, John, of Camp Hill; his four siblings: Ellis Sweigard and wife, Bonnie, of Meridan, CT, C. Robert “Bob” Sweigard and wife, Connie, of Leesburg, FL, Anna Hain of Copperas Cove, TX, Naomi Miller of Stewartstown; several nieces and nephews; and his beloved grandddog, Kona.

Al graduated from Halifax High School as part of the class of 1949 and served in the United States Army.  He retired from PNC Bank, after nearly 25 years of service working as a mortgage loan officer.  Al was a charter member of West Shore Baptist Church in Camp Hill, where he sang with the choir, was the Sunday school superintendent, and served on many boards.  He loved music, especially gospel.  Al also liked to sing and was a founding member of The Baptones, a local gospel quartet.  He was strong in his faith and beliefs.  Al was always involved with the church in one way or another and served as president of the American Baptist Men of Pennsylvania and Delaware.  Al loved playing golf and games, even though he could be quite competitive.  Otherwise, he was a jokester with an easy-going, gentle, and fun-loving spirit.  His family will always remember him as a wonderful father and devoted husband.

All are welcome to join Al’s family on Monday, March 14, 2022 for his celebration of life beginning at 10:30 a.m. at West Shore Baptist Church, 2025 Market Street, Camp Hill, PA 17011; with Reverend Kelly Legg officiating.  Al’s family invites everyone to join them for a greeting of guests and reception immediately following the service.  Interment in Rolling Green Cemetery in Camp Hill will be at the family’s convenience.  Cremation was private.

The family sends their most heartfelt thanks to everyone at Claremont Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, who so lovingly cared for Al.
