Allen Lee Grimm
A Real Family Man -
Allen Lee Grimm, age 95, of Mechanicsburg, passed away at home peacefully with his wife by his side on Thursday, June 14, 2018. Allen was born on Sunday, January 14, 1923 in Northumerland to the late Allen Lee Grimm, Sr. and Kate (Walt) Grimm. In addition to his parents, Allen is preceded in death by his three siblings: Clarence Grimm, Shirley Kissinger, and Curtis Grimm.
Allen’s survivors include his wife of 71 years, Arvella Olive (Bordner) Grimm; his two daughters: Jo Ann Deardorff and her husband, J. Richard, of North Canton, OH, Christy Phelan of Queensbury, NY; his four grandchildren: Erin Ziesmer and her husband, Scott, Melissa Garris and her husband, Jake, Brent Allan Deardorff and his wife, Courtney, Loren Miller and her husband, Derek; his six great-grandchildren: Addisyn, Ascher, and Ari Miller, Brailee and Cora Deardorff, and Norah Garris; and several nieces and nephews.
Allen graduated from Dalmatia High School as part of the class of 1943. He proudly served in the United States Army during World War II where he was awarded a Purple Heart from the two years he spent in Italy in the 1st Tank Battalion. He retired from Stabler Construction, Inc. in Harrisburg, after 50 years of service working in welding and repair. Allen was a charter member of Saint Peter Lutheran Church in Mechanicsburg. He enjoyed playing board games with his grandchildren, woodworking, and watching the Phillies and Nittany Lions play. Allen loved to garden and spend time outdoors especially if that involved gathering with his family to share a meal together. He was a real family man and cherished the time he was able to spend with all of them.
All are welcome to join Allen’s family at his gathering of family and friends on Friday, June 22, 2018, from 12:00 p.m. until time of service at 12:45 p.m. at Myers - Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with The Reverend Alex Martini officiating. Burial will follow in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery in Annville, where full military honors will be presented. Honored to the urn bearer is Brent Allan Deardorff. Allen’s family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship at Hoss’s Steak & Sea House, 61 Gettysburg Pike, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055, following the burial. Cremation was private.
The family sends their most heartfelt thanks to SpiriTrust Lutheran Hospice, especially his nurse, Jen, and social worker, Abby, who so lovingly cared for Allen during his illness.
