Alvin Lloyd Wiest

Alvin Lloyd Wiest, age 91, of Mechanicsburg, passed away at Claremont Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Carlisle on Friday, November 22, 2019. Alvin was born on Wednesday, July 11, 1928 in Millersburg to the late Michael Albert Wiest and Elsie Haldeman (Showers) Wiest. In addition to his parents, Alvin is preceded in death by his son, Timothy E. Wiest; and his seven siblings: Albert Wiest, Glenn Wiest, Robert Wiest, Florence Bowman, Dorothy Heckard, Edna Smeltz, and Dolly Billow.
Alvin’s survivors include his wife of 70 years, Mary Louise (Matter) Wiest; his four children: Stewart Wayne Wiest of Mechanicsburg, Gary Michael Wiest and his wife, Cheryl, of Carlisle, Donna Marie Hoover and her husband, Paul, Jr., of Mechanicsburg, Carol Ann Hummel and her husband, Kenneth, of Mechanicsburg; his six grandchildren; his five great-grandchildren; his sister, Pauline Zerbe of Millersburg; and several nieces and nephews.
Alvin graduated from Millersburg High School. He was a long-time member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church in Enola, where he was involved in various ministries over the years. Alvin retired from Beachley-Hardy Seed Company in Shiremanstown, after more than 40 years of service working in various jobs. Throughout his long career, Alvin was honest, industrious and hard working. He made sure that his tireless work ethic was passed down to his children. Alvin was a true jack of all trades and his vast amount of knowledge came from his own efforts to acquire it. He had a true passion for classic cars, especially Hudson vehicles. Alvin’s friends and family will remember proudly that he was faithful to a fault and trusting beyond measure. He gave freely of himself and expected nothing in return; he was a man of true charity and high character. Alvin will be greatly missed by his friends and beloved family.
