Anna Mae (Mullen) Keefer

Wind Beneath Our Wings -

Anna Mae (Mullen) Keefer, age 81, of Mechanicsburg died at her home surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, November 1, 2014.  Anna was born on Sunday, June 11, 1933 in New Bloomfield to the late Harry Edward Mullen and Helen Margaret (Bistline) Mullen.  Anna was the widow of Paul D. Keefer whom she married on December 6, 1952 and who died on August 15, 1985.  In addition to her parents and husband, Anna is preceded in death by her siblings: Ralph Mullen, Homer Mullen, Philip Mullen, and Jean McCoy.

Anna’s survivors include her sons: Reverend Robert Keefer and his wife Kathleen of Clarinda, IA, Donald Keefer and his wife Lynn of Raleigh, NC, and P. Daniel Keefer and his wife Denise of Hershey; her grandchildren:  Major Zachary Keefer, Laurel Keefer, Julia Keefer, and Patty Keefer; a great granddaughter, Ella Britt Keefer; her sisters: Esther Mullen of Mechanicsburg, Ida Baughman of Mechanicsburg; and several nieces and nephews.

Anna graduated from New Bloomfield High School as valedictorian of the class of 1950, but circumstances at the time kept her from furthering her education. She started working at such a young age that she needed parental permission to work at Bell Telephone in Harrisburg.  After getting married and after her oldest child was born, Anna stayed at home as a full-time mother until returning to work as a secretary for Cumberland Valley School District.  She remained active and retired form Green Ridge Elementary School in 1988, having had a positive impact on numerous children’s lives for close to 30 years.

Anna loved spending time with her family, reading, doing puzzles with her sisters, gardening, and spending as much of her time enjoying nature as she could.  She loved to sit outside and listen to the birds sing and enjoy the fragrance of the flowers she had all around her home.  She loved taking trips to watch baseball spring training games and served as Deacon of her church for many years.
