Anna Isabelle (Burd) Myers, age 92, of Mechanicsburg , and formerly of New Cumberland , died peacefully at Holy Spirit Hospital on Saturday, March 22, 2014. She was born in Blairs Mills, PA, on Sunday, June 12, 1921, daughter of the late James Burd and Jennie (Eckard) Burd. Anna was the widow of Earl C. Myers whom she married on May 9, 1970, and who died on October 17, 1996, and Paul Edward Nearhood whom she married in 1937 and who died in 1960.
Anna’s survivors include her daughter, Marjorie Ann (Nearhood) Mayne Zwicker and her husband Bob of Illinois; her four loving grandchildren, Frank Acri of Harrisburg, Lisa (Acri) Aucker of Mechanicsburg, Stacy Mayne of Illinois, Nikki (Murphy) Knepp of York Haven; her two great grandchildren, Zack and Logan; her sister, Helen Sutch; and several nieces and nephews. Among those preceding Anna in death are her daughter, Nancy Lee (Nearhood) Acri Murphy; her brother, John Burd; and her two sisters, Mary Devinney and Pauline Gearhart.
Anna was well known in New Cumberland for her amazing cooking. People would often tell her kids, “Your Mom can sure cook!” She retired as a long-time cook from Town Tavern (now Coakley’s) in New Cumberland. Her recipes will be cherished by those who are lucky enough to have them. Anna was a most pleasant and kind woman who always made those around her feel welcome. She will be deeply missed by her daughter, her grandchildren and all those who knew and loved her.
All are welcome to join Anna’s family at her Gathering of Family and Friends on Friday, March 28, 2014, from 10:00 a.m. until time of Memorial Service at 11:00 a.m. at Myers–Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory , 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055, with Celebrant Mary Medkeff-Rose officiating. Anna’s family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship at West Main Family Restaurant , 710 West Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055, immediately following her Memorial Service. Burial will follow the reception in Newport Cemetery . Honored to be Anna’s urn bearer is her grandson, Frank Acri. Cremation was private.
