All About Family -

Anne Elizabeth (Mittereder) Hamilton, age 90, of Mechanicsburg, and formerly of Sigel, passed away on Friday, August 9, 2019, following a lengthy illness.  Anne was born on Friday, May 31, 1929 in Pittsburgh to the late Aloysius Lucas Mittereder, Sr. and Anna (Hufnagel) Mittereder.  Anne was the widow of Paul Pressley Hamilton, Sr., whom she married on August 29, 1953, and who died on September 30, 2014.  In addition to her parents and husband, Anne is preceded in death by her daughter, Rebekah Marie Hamilton; her grandson, Spencer Wing; her two brothers: Aloysius “Ollie” L. Mittereder, Jr., Francis Mittereder; and her sister, Joan Barclay.

Anne’s survivors include her seven children: Kathleen “Kathy” Collier and her husband, Greg, of St. Cloud, FL, Paul P. Hamilton, Jr. of Groton, NY, Adrienne “Ady” Marie Braun of Carlisle, Charles “Chuck” A. Hamilton of Harrisburg, Mary Beth Hamilton and her husband, Steve Weber, of Mechanicsburg, Philip “Phil” M. Hamilton and his wife, Colleen, of Groton, NY, Thomas “Tom” Hamilton of Haskell, NJ; her eight grandchildren: Sara, Danny, Brian, Andrew, Brandon, Chauntae, Mallory, Nolan; her two great-grandchildren: Andrés, Elena; her sister, Mary “Kay” Slater; her brother, Conrad “Connie” Mittereder; and several nieces and nephews.

Mom, Betty Anne, or Anne Elizabeth Mittereder lived through the depression, just ask her kids who still wash tin foil to this day.  She went to college when Tom, the youngest, attended first grade.  After a string of straight A’s, she became a registered nurse and specialized in psychiatric nursing.  She was a member of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), the Altar Society, and was a strong Catholic.  Dad loved camping and Mom… agreed; she did a lot of camping in Idaho. She was a phenomenal baker.  Mom made super cinnamon rolls for Christmas, and chocolate covered Easter eggs and great pies – like cherry and lemon meringue.  Mom always said, “I think Idaho was about our favorite place to live.”  Mom was very witty and always giggling with Dad, she knew how to make us laugh.  When Nolan visited two weeks ago, she told him he needed a shave, even though it’s a fine beard, and he couldn’t have any pudding!  She played Bingo with Tom and told him she’d share the winnings (chocolate candy bars) with him the next day.  Tom came the next morning and looked for the candy only to find there were none there!  When he asked about them, she told him, “There’s no chocolate for you!”  She loved fishing, but not fish.  When Paul tried to give her the fish she caught at Moose Haven in Canada, she jumped and yelled, “Get it away from me!”  If we got hurt she always told us not to bleed on the rug.  She warned us not to get injured because she wasn’t taking us to the hospital.  Then she’d take us to the hospital, especially Chuck – seven broken arms!  Mom will now be fishing with her favorite guy, her husband Paul, who died in 2014.  We expect to find them, when the fog clears, somewhere in the Rockies of a ghostly Idaho.
