Ardine Jane (Woods) Jones

A Kind and Charitable Woman -

Ardine Jane (Woods) Jones, age 85, of Mechanicsburg, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 11, 2019.  Jane was born on Sunday, December 3, 1933 in Newark, NJ.  Jane was the widow of Meredith “Dick” Richard Jones, whom she married in 1953, and who died on November 12, 2008.

Jane’s survivors include her dear friend, Mary, and her extended family who live in Dillsburg, Carlisle, and Baltimore; her neighbors on either side of her home: Mandy and Joe and Sandy and Charlie; her hairstylist, Sharon, who styled Jane’s hair each week; her handyman, Jim, who took care of Jane’s lawn and helped her around her home; her lunch-mates, Toni and Maria, who she ate with most Sundays; and the many others whose lives Jane touched.

Jane graduated from Pottsville High School as part of the class of 1951.  She retired in 1991 from the Navy Depot in Mechanicsburg after many years of service working as a Secretary in the Ammunition Department.  Jane was of the Lutheran faith.  She was a talented knitter and an expert seamstress, who made some of her and her husband’s clothing.  She loved to tend her flower garden and enjoyed playing the piano.  Jane loved to read, especially about politics and history; her knowledge of both subjects was extraordinary.  Jane cared greatly for animals and especially loved dogs.  One of the highlights of Jane’s life was her wonderful and memorable trip to Europe with her special friends, Mary and Tom.  Jane cherished the time that she spent with them.  She enjoyed volunteering her time, alongside her husband, at the former Seidle Memorial Hospital.  Her caring and giving spirit will be fondly remembered by all who knew her

All are welcome to join Jane’s friends as they gather on Wednesday, May 22, 2019 at her open house to celebrate her life with food and storytelling from 6:00 p.m. until a time of remembrance at 7:00 p.m. at Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Reverend Roy Stetler officiating.  Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family in Mechanicsburg Cemetery.  Cremation was private.

The family sends their most heartfelt thanks to Dr. Ann Deshong and all the physicians and staff at the Masonic Home, who so lovingly cared for Jane during her illness.
