Arlene Miller Cassel, 80, of Mechanicsburg died Tuesday, May 10, 2011 at Hershey Medical Center following an automobile accident. She was born on Sunday, March 15, 1931 in Mechanicsburg, the daughter of the late Milton R. and A. Mae (Garman) Miller. She married her sweetheart of over 60 years, Willard F. Cassel Jr., on June 3, 1951.
Arlene was an avid gardener taking over an hour each day to water all her flowers. If a new flower came out, she had it. She was a kind and generous woman who always cared about others’ comfort more than her own. She was a voracious cook and baker who served small portions that were
HUGE
! She greatly enjoyed working in the kitchen, which she saw as a labor of love. Cooking and baking with her grandchildren was a joy for her. “No one made better hogmaw” and her macaroni and cheese was heavenly, as were her chocolate Easter Eggs. She was an amazingly skilled cake decorator who baked and decorated the Broad Street Elementary School, the drive-in at the 1

Bank & Trust and all of her children’s wedding cakes. She will always be remembered by her family as the “baker of all bakers.”
Arlene is survived by her loving husband: Willard F. Cassel Jr. of Mechanicsburg; three sons, one daughter and six grandchildren: Timothy Cassel of Arlington MA, David Cassel and his wife Dianne of Camp Hill and his four children: Lauren, Kristen, Katelyn & Courtney; Lisa Sanna and her husband Joseph Jr of Enola and their two children: Marissa & Nicole; Matthew Cassel of Mechanicsburg; one sister: Helen Beitzel of Mechanicsburg and several nieces and nephews.

Rev. Dr. Charles Hostetter will officiate at a private service for the family and interment will be private and at the convenience of the family in Mechanicsburg Cemetery.
The family suggests memorial contributions to: First Church of God.
