Arnelio Alessandrini, age 94, of Mechanicsburg, PA , and formerly of Canton, OH, died at home on Saturday, October 4, 2014.  Arnelio was born on Friday, October 1, 1920 in Supino, Italy, to the late Guiseppe and Angeline Alessandrini.  Arnelio was the widower of Elizabeth (Kantor) Alessandrini , whom he married on October 25, 1947.  In addition to his parents and wife, Arnelio is preceded in death by his son, Arne Alessandrini; and his brothers:  Adelpho “Del” Alessandrini, Antonio “Tony” Alessandrini, Anteo “Butch” Alessandrini, and Americo Alessandrini.

Arnelio’s survivors include his daughters:  Jocine Alessandrini and her life partner, Donald “Bear” Darr, of Mechanicsburg, Alida Mason of Raeford, NC; his grandchildren and great-grandchildren:  Scott Mason, Avery Darr, Jessica and Michael Edelman and their son, Jordan, Natalie and Joseph Kahn and their children, Lilith and William.

Arnelio lived most of his life in Canton, OH.  His career started as a young man in the CCC clearing forests in Colorado.  He was a bellhop for the Belden Hotel when America entered World War II.  During the war he became a U.S. Army Medic, earning a Purple Heart at the invasion of Normandy.  After the war, Arnelio worked as a foreman at the Gambrinus Plant of the Timken Roller Bearing Company until his retirement in 1980.  Family was the most important thing in Arnelio’s life, and everyone who got to know him became part of the extended Alessandrini familia.

All are welcome to join Arnelio’s family at his viewing on Saturday, October 11, 2014 from 2:00 p.m. until time of remembrance service at 4:00 p.m. at Myers - Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory , 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055.  In honor of Arnelio’s love of gathering with family and friends, the family invites everyone to wear something warm and comfortable to the viewing and service and asks that you join them at their home immediately following the service for a celebration of Arnelio’s life.  Everyone is also welcome to join Arnelio’s family at his viewing in Ohio on Monday, October 13, 2014 from 1:00 p.m. until time of Mass of Christian Burial at 2:00 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church , 2427 Tuscarawas Street West, Canton, OH 44708.  Burial will immediately follow in Calvary Cemetery in Perry Heights, OH.    Arnelio’s family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship at Lucia’s Steakhouse , 4769 Belpar Street NW, Canton, Ohio 44718 following the burial.  Honored to be pallbearers are:  Michael Edelman, Joe Kahn, Scott Mason, Donald Darr, Bear Darr, and Avery Darr.

The family suggests memorial contributions to Hospice of Central Pennsylvania , 1320 Linglestown Road, Harrisburg, PA 17110.
