Barbara Weaver Beisel passed away on Monday, October 27, 2014 while surrounded by her family.

B arbara was a distinguished wife, mother, friend, and educator whose life was characterized by her ability to encourage and bring out the best in people.  As a mother, wife, and friend, Barbara always put others first.

She was educated at the Seiler School (Harrisburg Academy), William Penn High School, West Chester State Teacher’s College, and the University of Akron, where she earned a master’s degree in special education in 1973.  Culminating her career as a master teacher, Barbara served at the Northern Tier Learning & Diagnostic Center at Mansfield University; using her unique ability to understand, diagnose, and prescribe learning plans for children with learning disabilities.

Barbara’s lifelong loves included travel and study, classical music, words and their Latin roots, African violets, and all furry creatures. She adored her husband, Bill, and their “Bosom Buddies” in Akron and Mansfield.

Barbara was a non-judgmental friend of diverse people. She brought her tinkling laugh and sense of humor, an artistic ability, sense of beauty, and her twinkling eye through to the end as gifts to her children, grandchildren, and all who knew her.

Barbara/Mrs. Beisel/ Mom/Grandma was much loved and will be missed by her children: William Harold Beisel III, and his wife, Cheryl, of Stow, Ohio, Raymond W. Beisel and his wife, Deborah, of Clymer, PA, Margaret Susan Beisel Penno and her husband, Pete, of York, PA; grandchildren: Daniel Beisel and his wife Monteca, Leland Penno and his wife, Rebecca, Georgia Penno Perry and her husband, Joshua, Kelly Beisel Reese and her husband, Brandon, Colin Beisel, Christopher Beisel, Robin Beisel, Jacqueline Beisel, Jacob Beisel; great-grandchildren: Mya Beisel, Penny Perry, and soon-to-arrive, William Perry; and a special nephew, Jim Metcalfe and his wife, Christine, of Mechanicsburg.

Barbara was predeceased by her parents, Frank Emmett and Isabel (Phillips) Weaver; her sister, Margaret Weaver Metcalfe; her brother, V. Phillips Weaver; her first son, James Phillips Beisel, and her husband of 62 years, William Harold Beisel, Jr.

All are welcome to join Barbara’s family at her Gathering of Family & Friends on Thursday, October 30, 2014, from 12:30 p.m. until time of service at 1:00 p.m. at The Episcopal Church of St. John The Baptist , 140 North Beaver Street, York, PA 17403, with The Reverend Canon David Lovelace officiating.  Burial will immediately follow in Mechanicsburg Cemetery.

The family suggests memorial contributions to The Espicopal Church of St. John The Baptist or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital , 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
