Barbara “Barb” Jane (Starner) Duncan
Accepting and Loving Wife and Mother -
Barbara “Barb” Jane (Starner) Duncan, age 71, of Mechanicsburg, passed away peacefully with family by her side on Monday, June 6, 2016. Barb was born on Sunday, October 15, 1944, in Mechanicsburg to the late Paul Richard Starner and Edna Mae (McAllister) Starner. In addition to her parents, Barb is preceded in death by her three sisters: Myra “Peg” Spahr, Louella “Lou” Reynolds, and Susan Herman.
Barb’s survivors include her loving husband of 31 years, Terry Wayne Duncan; her four children: Keith Allen Starner and his wife, Michelle, of Mechanicsburg, Frank William Duncan and his wife, Heidi, of Shermans Dale, Teresa Joanne Free and her husband, Christopher, of Somerset, Rachel Ann Mellot and her husband, Vincent, of Newville; her 11 grandchildren; her 11 great-grandchildren; and her two siblings: Carl Starner and his wife, Linda, of Blaine, Carol Hoke and her husband, Mickey, of Carlisle; and several nieces and nephews.
Barb graduated from Cedar Cliff High School as part of the class of 1962. She retired in 2006 from Shipley Energy (formerly Mechanicsburg Oil) in Mechanicsburg, after over 40 years of service working at the same desk. Some of Barb’s favorite pastimes were playing bingo, attending yard sales, playing cards with her sister, and shopping. While Barb worked at the Wonder Why, (now Visaggio’s), Terry would play his favorite song “Waltz Across Texas” on the jukebox. When Barb heard it, she would say, “Terry is here!” and they would sneak a dance. An extremely accepting and loving person, Terry feels he could not have raised his three kids without Barb and says she made him the best father he could be. Her family remembers Barb’s home-cooked meals as “the best” and thought she was the greatest step-mom ever. Barb truly pulled her family together and will be deeply missed by them.
All are welcome to join Barb’s family at her gathering of family and friends on Saturday, June 11, 2016, from 11:00 a.m. until time of service at 12:00 p.m. at Myers - Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Celebrant George Spangler officiating.
