Barbara “Barbie” Jean (Young) Fahnestock, age 61, of Lewisberry, and formerly of Dillsburg, passed away on Saturday, June 1, 2019. Barbie was born on Wednesday, March 19, 1958 in Mechanicsburg to Clyde Richard Young and Ruth Ann (Lenker) Young. Barbie is preceded in death by her sister, Linda Ann Hanawalt.
Barbie’s survivors include her husband of 35 years, George “Junior” Thomas Fahnestock, Jr.; her brother: Clyde Oliver Young and his wife, Tania, of Dillsburg; her nephew, Travis Tyler Young; and her niece, Ashley Renee Young.
Barbie graduated from Cumberland Valley High School as part of the class of 1976. She retired from Capital Blue Cross in Harrisburg, after 42 years of service working as a claims supervisor. Barbie was a member and past president of the American Business Women’s Association. Her trip to New Orleans at Mardi Gras was a highlight of her time with the group. She enjoyed playing bingo at the Newville Fire Company and attending Cumberland Valley High School football games, with her husband, George. Barbie also loved to cook delicious holiday meals for her family. George was the love of her life. She cherished their vacations to Williamsburg, VA and their visits to the Allenberry Playhouse, the site of George’s proposal to Barbie. Her family and friends will lovingly remember that Barbie was always willing to help family and friends. She always thought of others before herself.
All are welcome to join Barbie’s family at her gathering of family and friends on Monday, June 10, 2019, from 12:00 p.m. until time of service at 1:00 p.m. at Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Celebrant George A. Spangler officiating. Barbie’s family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship at Hoss's Steak & Sea House, 61 Gettysburg Pike, Mechanicsburg immediately following the service. Private interment will follow in Emanuel Cemetery in Lewisberry. Cremation was private.
