Barry Karl Markley, age 74, of Mechanicsburg, passed away on Friday, June 4, 2021.  Barry was born on Saturday, February 8, 1947, in Manheim to the late John Karl Markley and Mabel Esther (Umble) Markley.  In addition to his parents, Barry is preceded in death by sister, Diane Frey

Barry’s survivors include his wife of 52 years, Kathryn “Kitty” Louise (Kumler) Markley; his daughter, Nicole “Niki” Ulitchney and husband, Craig, of Pittston; his two sisters: Brenda Raihl and husband, Larry, of Akron, and Judy McMichael and husband, Joe, of Mount Joy; and several nieces and nephews.

Barry graduated from Hempfield High School as part of the class of 1965.  On December 21, 1968, this captain of the football team married a cheerleader and high school sweetheart.  Though many said that it wouldn’t last, Barry and Kitty were married for 52 years.  He retired from Unisys in Harrisburg, in 2007 after several years of service working as a computer technician.  Barry was a long-time member of Christ Community Church in Camp Hill, and a former member of the First Presbyterian Church in Shippensburg, where he and Kitty came to know Jesus.  Barry was a man, who loved the outdoors.  He enjoyed spending time on local trout streams; and was a member of a hunting camp in Clinton County, where he had been a member since he was 11 years old.  He loved to grow vegetables in his garden at Bethany Village.  Barry would share the vegetables he grew and made delicious soups, with the residents at Bethany Village.  He also liked to watch the many types of birds that gathered nearby.  He picked up the game of golf, when his daughter, Niki, started to play.  They have enjoyed many rounds together at Liberty Forge and other golf courses.  Barry, also had a way with animals and could care for and give aid, when no one else could come near.  His family remembers that he was stubborn and a perfectionist, who had to do things, “just right”.  They also remember him as a prankster, who loved to tease and joke.  Barry was known to friends and coworkers as a leader and a man to whom people gravitated to.  Barry’s family will miss his loyalty and faithfulness. Barry was a man who loved with all his heart and when he loved you he “loved you well!”
