Beatrice "Betts" May (Diffenderfer) Hugi

Beatrice “Betts” May (Diffenderfer) Hugi, age 98, of Mechanicsburg passed away on Sunday, January 16, 2022. Betts was born on Friday, September 21, 1923, in Middletown to the late John Diffenderfer and Alma (Meinsler) Diffenderfer. Betts was the widow of Earl L. Hugi, whom she married on May 10, 1945, and who died on May 2, 2004.  In addition to her parents and husband, Betz is preceded in death by her son, Jay D. Hugi; her brothers: Harold, James, Charles, Benjamin and William Diffenderfer; and her sisters: Lois Telesha, Mary Jane Baker and June Moleski.

Betts’s survivors include her daughter, Cheryal Matsko and her husband, Edward, of Mechanicsburg; her granddaughter, Kimberly “Kim” Archer and her husband, Craig, of Mechanicsburg; and her two great-grandchildren: James and Jenna Archer.

As a member of the Capital City Polka Dancers, Betts never heard a polka song that did not make her want to dance. She had quite the green thumb and in her spare time she loved caring for her plants and flowers. Betts loved to relax with a good cup of hot tea and was known for making the best whoopie pies.

Betts’s family will be remembering her life privately. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family in Rolling Green Cemetery in Camp Hill.
