Bernice Fay (Hershberger) Eash

Bernice Fay (Hershberger) Eash, age 89, peacefully passed into eternal life on Monday, July 11, 2022, in Carlisle.  Born February 10, 1933 in Davidsville, Somerset County, Bernice was the daughter of the late Harry C. and Annie V. (Mishler) Hershberger.   Along with her parents, Bernice is preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Laurence D. Eash; an infant daughter; brother-in-law Owen W. Hunt; brother-in-law John A. Blough; sister-in-law Wilma (Berkey) Eash.

Bernice’s survivors include her two daughters: Wendy Kautz and her husband, Edward, of New Cumberland; Denise Burkhard and her husband, Dennis, of Mechanicsburg; her son, Douglas and his companion, Kimberly Bloom, of York; her five grandchildren:  Edward Laurence Kautz and his wife, Amy, of North Carolina; Laura Buzzard and her husband, Joshua, of Lewisberry; Codie Eash and his wife, Mary, of Dover; Daniel Burkhard of Mechanicsburg; Jacob Eash of York; her three great-grandsons: Ephraim, Luke and Samuel Buzzard of Lewisberry; her sister, Betty Hunt of Johnstown; her brother in-law, the Reverend John E. Eash, Jr. of Windber; her two sisters in-law: Arbutus (Eash) Blough of Jerome and Dr. Violette Eash of Windber; and many nieces and nephews.

Bernice was a 1950 graduate of Conemaugh Township Area High School in Somerset County and completed a career from The Allegheny Lutheran Home Dietary Department in Johnstown while remaining in the food service industry until retirement.  She was an active member of Saint Paul (Trinity) Lutheran Church in York and served several years as chair of the Ladies Sewing Group.  In her free time, Bernice enjoyed cooking, baking, puzzle books, embroidery, and quilting.  She enjoyed family camping and riding with Larry on his boat.  She will be greatly missed.

All are welcome to join Bernice’s family at her viewing on Saturday, July 16, 2022, from 11:00 a.m. until time of service beginning at 12:15 p.m. all at Saint Paul (Trinity) Lutheran Church, 250 Trinity Road, York, PA 17408; with Reverend Paul Gausmann and Reverend Sarah Gausmann officiating.  A graveside service and burial will follow the service in Friedensaal Church Cemetery in Seven Valleys.  Bernice’s family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship at her church following the burial.
