Betty Jane (Wevodau) Cornman, age 86, of Mechanicsburg , died peacefully at Claremont Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Carlisle on Thursday, May 8, 2014.  Betty was born on Saturday, August 6, 1927 in Mechanicsburg to the late Warren Franklin Wevodau and Catherine Irene (Kauffman) Wevodau.  Betty was the widow of Sylvan “Pop” Charles Cornman whom she married on January 23, 1949 and who died on November 22, 1998.

Betty’s survivors include her loving children, Richard “Chard” “Pap” E. Cornman and his wife Julia of Mechanicsburg, Joyce Arlene Widener and her husband Don of State College; her grandchildren: Richard “Butch” C. Cornman, Jr. of Germany, Jason Cornman, Sr. of Mechanicsburg, Kristi Conover of Hellam, Brian Widener of State College, Angie Stine of Mercersburg, Mike Hardsock of Altoona; her nine great-grandchildren; and her brother, Roy Franklin Wevodau.  Among those preceding Betty in death is her brother, Roy Kenneth Wevodau of Mechanicsburg.

Betty was a long-time member of Trindle Spring Lutheran Church in Mechanicsburg.  She was an honorary life-time member of Citizen’s Fire & Rescue, Company 27 , in Mechanicsburg where she was active from the 1960’s until 2010.  Betty loved to help at the “Fire House” and spent many years in charge of the kitchen and gently teaching the younger women her “secret” recipes.  She loved both her vegetable and flower gardens, which allowed her to enjoy canning and having flowers “all over the place”.  The mountain was one of Betty’s favorite places and she enjoyed going there when she could.  Betty visited every state except North Dakota and she treasured her camper trips with her brother, Roy, and his wife, Betty.

All are welcome to join Betty’s family at her viewing on Saturday, May 17, 2014, from 10:00 a.m. until time of funeral service at 11:30 a.m. at Myers - Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory , 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Pastor Gale M. Gregor officiating.  Casual attire is suggested.  Honored to be pallbearers are: Tom Bender, Keith Marston, Paul Heeter, Paul Glantz, Brian Smithmyer, and Bob Weaver.  Betty’s family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship at Citizen's Fire & Rescue , 208 South York Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055, immediately following the funeral service.  Cremation will be private and interment will be at the convenience of the family in Rolling Green Memorial Park in Camp Hill.
