Betty J. Evans, 87, of Mechanicsburg died Sunday, October 30, 2011 at Holy Spirit Hospital surrounded by her loving family. She was born on Sunday, March 9, 1924 in Enola the daughter of the late Laurence and Mabel (Taylor) Hoffman.

Betty graduated from Enola High School, attended Dickinson College and received her Associates Degree in Accounting from HACC. She also earned a Certificate of Professional Secretaries designation (CPS).  Betty retired from the State of Pennsylvania and from Boscov’s. She was a long time member of Mechanicsburg Church of the Brethren.

Betty was very proud of receiving her pilot license in the early 1940’s and also being crowned “May Queen of Enola”. She loved to travel with her family and enjoyed swimming. Betty was very supportive of her family, and showered her children and grandchildren with “lots of love”.

Betty’s survivors include her loving husband of 60 years: Ross Murray Evans, her children Frederick J. Evans and wife Sue of Loudon, TN; Linda S. Brassell and husband Donald of Great Falls, VA; Robert M. Evans of Chambersburg; Patricia A. Hammaker and husband Jeff of New Cumberland; nine grandchildren: Jamie Evans, Evan, Christopher and Grace Brassell; Ryan, Justin and Brandon Evans; and Joshua and Alexis Hammaker.

All are welcome to join Betty’s family at her visitation on Thursday, November 3, 2011, from 9:00-10:00 at Mechanicsburg Church of the Brethren. Following visitation the funeral service will be held at 10:00 in the church with Reverend Dr. J. Gerald Greiner and Rev. Del Keeney officiating.

Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville. The family suggests memorial contributions to the charity of one’s choice.
