Betty Jane (Runk) Shelleman

Full of Life -

Betty Jane (Runk) Shelleman, 88, of Mechanicsburg , died at Manor Care Health Services in Camp Hill, on Sunday, March 10, 2013.  She was born in Hanover, on Saturday, January 24, 1925, daughter of the late Ralph Runk and Esther (Eckert) Runk.  Betty was the widow of Herbert “Herb” Leroy Shelleman whom she married on June 12, 1942 and who died on November 25, 2008.

Betty’s survivors include her loving son, Rodney “Rod” Lee Shelleman and his wife Bonnie of Mechanicsburg; six grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren with another on the way; one brother, Richard Runk of Hanover; and two sisters, Doris Horn of NY, Nancy Meckley of FL.  Among those preceding Betty in death are her daughter, Debbie Lee Shelleman; and her sister, Pauline Kerlin.

Betty retired as Head Cashier from Weber’s Hardware when they closed the store.  She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Mechanicsburg.  Betty was always full of life and loved dancing to both dance and country music.  She was very involved with her grandchildren and never missed a ballgame.  Betty loved taking them shopping and having them spend the night at her house.  She enjoyed watching dog races in West Virginia with her brother and his wife, Karnie.  Betty and her husband treasured their time together, watching baseball, football and car races on television.  In their later years, they enjoyed car rides and stopping for hot dogs and coffee.

All are welcome to join Betty’s family at her viewing on Wednesday, March 13, 2013, from 1:00 until time of service at 2:00 at Myers–Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory , 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055, with Celebrant Mary Medkeff-Rose officiating.  Burial will follow in Rolling Green Memorial Park in Camp Hill.  Honored to be pallbearers are: David Shelleman, Kirk Shelleman, Nathan Kauffman, Mark VanHoy, Bryan Harner and Shane Liddick.  Betty’s family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship at the family’s home following the burial.
