Loved Her Family

Betty Jane (Shoap) Penny, age 97, of Mechanicsburg, and formerly of Allentown, passed away peacefully at Holy Spirit Hospital on Friday, February 26, 2016.  Betty Jane was born on Sunday, February 9, 1919 in Hummelstown to the late Lloyd Beam Shoap and Zelma (Landis) Shoap.  Betty Jane was the widow of George V. Penny, whom she married on August 19, 1950, and who died on November 11, 1988.  In addition to her parents and husband, Betty Jane is preceded in death by her brother, William Lloyd Shoap, and her nephew, William Linn Shoap.

Betty Jane’s survivors include her loving niece, Beverly “Bev” A. (Shoap) Coleman and her husband, Rick, of Mechanicsburg; her two great-nephews, Adam Lowell Quiggle and his wife, Jenny, of Parker, Colorado, and Brent William Quiggle and his wife, Jocelyn, of Charleston, SC; her great-great-nephew, Brodie Quiggle; her two great-great-nieces, Bailey Quiggle and Callie Quiggle; and her niece-in-law, Pegi Shoap.

Betty Jane graduated from Hummelstown High School and from Shippensburg University, where she earned her bachelor’s degree.  She then did master’s work at Penn State.  She retired from the Allentown School District, where she worked as an elementary school teacher.  Betty Jane was a faithful and life-long Lutheran.  Above all else, Betty Jane loved her family with her whole heart and soul and always held them as the most important thing in her life.

Betty Jane’s family will be remembering her life privately.  Burial in Hummelstown Cemetery will be at the family’s convenience.
