Boyd Lee Myers, Sr.
Captain Boyd Lee Myers, Sr., age 70, of Stuart, Florida where he lived for 17 years, and formerly of Mechanicsburg, PA, died at home and with his wife by his side on Saturday, August 15, 2009, after a long battle with cancer. Boyd was born on Wednesday, November 23, 1938 in Mechanicsburg to the late Martin Myers and Peg Myers.
Boyd’s survivors include his wife of 31 years, Jutta Myers of Stuart, FL; his daughter, Margaret "Mindy" Ann Myers of Mechanicsburg, PA; his son, Boyd Lee Myers, Jr. of Mechanicsburg, PA; his step-daughter, Ina King of Burlington, NC; and his brother, Martin Myers and his wife, Pat, of Mechanicsburg, PA.
Boyd graduated from Mechanicsburg High School and then from the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree from Juniata College in Juniata, PA. Boyd owned Myers Funeral Home, Inc. in Mechanicsburg, PA which was founded in 1910 by his grandfather, S. Harper Myers. For many years Boyd managed the funeral home and served as a funeral director and embalmer. Boyd also owned and operated The Mindy Charter Boat out of Pirates Cove Marina in Florida. He was a long-time member of both the National Funeral Directors Association and the Pennsylvania Funeral Directors Association and he was a former member of the Stuart Sailfish Club and the Billfish Foundation.
All are welcome to join Boyd’s family at his gathering of family and friends on Monday, August 17, 2009, from 5:00 p.m. until time of remembrance service at 7:00 p.m. at Forest Hills Young & Prill Chapel in Stuart, Florida; and at his funeral service on Saturday, August 22, 2009, beginning at 7:00 p.m. at Myers Funeral Home, Inc., 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Reverend William C. Butts officiating. Cremation was private.
