Brian Scott Rutkowski, age 52, of Shiremanstown, passed away with his loving family by his side on Wednesday, January 20, 2021, after being diagnosed two weeks prior with cancer. Brian was born on Wednesday, January 8, 1969, in Harrisburg to Martin Paul Rutkowski and Gail Ann (Stoner) Remsburg.
Brian’s survivors include his two children: Alex Brian Rutkowski and partner, Dara Philippen, of Enola, Hailey Mabel Rutkowski and partner, Matt Swartz, of New Cumberland; his father, Martin “Marty” Rutkowski and wife, Kathy, of Mechanicsburg; his mother, Gail Remsburg and husband, Mike, of Mechanicsburg; his brother, Matt Rutkowski and wife, Lizzy, of Camp Hill; his two nephews: Mason, Greyson; his niece, Blake; his former spouse, Lurlei Watson of New Cumberland; and his beloved feline companion, Zeus.
Brian graduated from Mechanicsburg High School as part of the class of 1988. He worked as a mechanic for Highland Motor Sales in Lemoyne and served as a partner with Rutkowski and Sons, LLC. Brian enjoyed going to the flea market with his family to both browse and buy. Brian liked building and working on motor bicycles, including his own, and talking about them with his nephew, Mason. He was also a car enthusiast who owned and worked on numerous Fiats. Other hobbies of Brian’s included adding to his extensive collection of Coleman lanterns and spending time in his vegetable garden. His children were very important to him. Brian attended all of Alex’s soccer games and helped work on his vehicles. The special connection he had with daughter Hailey was that ladybugs were her symbol.
Brian’s family will be remembering his life privately. Burial in St. John’s Cemetery in Mechanicsburg will be at the family’s convenience.
