Brian David Wilcox
A Character & A Man of Character -
Brian David Wilcox, age 58, of Mechanicsburg, and formerly of Mansfield, went home while being cared for by his wife and children on Thursday, January 12, 2017, after a battle with cancer. Brian was born on Monday, January 12, 1959 in Wellsboro, PA to the late Jack Morris Wilcox and Mary Josephine (Stuart) Wilcox.
Brian’s survivors include his wife of 28 years, Christina “Chris” Beverly (Eyre) Wilcox; his four children: Bailey Mason and her husband, Tyler, of Middletown, Sydney Wilcox, Elijah Wilcox, Reilly Wilcox all of Mechanicsburg; his brother, Jack Wilcox; and his godson, Riley James and his mother, Jenn.
Brian graduated from Mansfield High School as part of the class of 1977 and from Mansfield University where he earned two degrees in physics and computer science. He worked for BAE Systems in Mechanicsburg for almost 20 years as a programmer. Brian was a member of Camp Hill United Methodist Church since 1999, where he was a coach in the Upwards Basketball Youth League and Band of Brother Men’s Group. He had a giving heart, which could often be seen in his love for children. Brian had a playful spirit and personality, so much so that he could be found riding on the shopping cart at the grocery store. He also enjoyed playing trivial pursuit and doing all sorts of puzzles. Brian loved supporting Messiah’s soccer teams and he attended most of their games.
Brian loved his family and was all about them. He coached his daughter’s soccer team for many years while she played for HMMS Soccer and he took his son hunting. Brian would spend time reading books, singing songs, and telling stories to his kids. Brian didn’t let anything stop him from doing things with his family. While he was sick, he ran in a mud run with his daughter, Sydney. His family holds many memories with him, including camping together in the Mansfield Woods. Brian was always protective of his family and he worked hard to keep them safe.
All are welcome to join Brian’s family at his memorial service on Sunday, January 22, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. with reception with greeting of guest to follow at 3:00 p.m. at Camp Hill United Methodist Church, 417 South 22nd Street, Camp Hill, PA 17011; with Pastor Anna Layman Knox, Reverend Dr. Stephen Gallaher, and Reverend Dr. Jack Grove officiating.
