An Outgoing and Friendly Man -

Calvin Robert Thompson, age 85, of Lancaster, and formerly of Mechanicsburg, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 21, 2018.  Calvin was born on Monday, May 23, 1932 in Allenport to the late Arthur Brown Thompson, Sr. and Mary “Mae” (McCracken) Thompson.  Calvin was the widower of Zana Lee (Bowser) Thompson, whom he married on January 24, 1958, and who died on November 24, 2006.  In addition to his parents and wife, Calvin is preceded in death by his three brothers: William Thompson, Maxwell Thompson, and his twin brother, Clinton Thompson; and his sister-in-law, Anna Thompson.

Calvin’s survivors include his three children: Karen Dunlevy and her husband, Reverend Jeffrey, of Lancaster, PA, Connie Thompson-Bodkin and her husband, Terry, of Rockingham, VA, Bradley “Brad” Thompson and his wife, Jennifer, of Munhall, PA; his nine grandchildren: Ryan Dunlevy and his wife, Jessica, Sean Dunlevy and his wife, Jessica, Joelynn Thompson, Jasmine Thompson, Brian Thompson, Jessica Thompson, Jayson Thompson, Benjamin Thompson, Bradley Thompson; his great-granddaughter, Adeline Zana Dunlevy; his two brothers: Arthur Thompson, Jr. of Colorado, Edward “Ed” Thompson and his wife, Doris, of Myerstown, PA; his sister-in-law, Cretia Thompson of Crab Orchard, WV; and several nieces and nephews.

Calvin graduated from Mount Union Area High School and served in the United States Air Force.  He retired from SCI Camp Hill, after 18 years of service working as a corrections officer and dairyman.  Calvin’s favorite job involved the farm work and he loved it.  He was a longtime member of the Mechanicsburg Brethren in Christ Church where Calvin was involved in various functions.  Following his retirement, he volunteered as the equipment manager for 25 years with the Cumberland Valley High School football team.  Calvin was a big fan of football and loved to watch his favorite teams: Penn State University and Cumberland Valley High School.  He also enjoyed playing Bingo, bowling, singing, and playing the trombone.  Calvin was very outgoing and liked being around people.

All are welcome to join Calvin’s family at his viewing on Friday, May 25, 2018, from 3:00 p.m. until time of casket closing at 5:45 p.m. with a service to follow at 6:00 p.m. at Mechanicsburg Brethren in Christ Church, 1050 South York Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Pastor Layne Lebo and Pastor John King officiating.  Burial in Mechanicsburg Cemetery will be private and at the convenience of the family.  Honored to be pallbearers are Terry Bodkin, Jeffrey Dunlevy, Ryan Dunlevy, Sean Dunlevy, Brian Thompson, and Jayson Thompson.
