Cameron Samuel Mumper

Cameron Samuel Mumper, age 88, of Mechanicsburg, PA, and formerly of Allison Park, PA, died at Messiah Lifeways at Messiah Village on Sunday, August 27, 2017.  Cameron was born on Saturday, December 29, 1928 in Heilwood, PA, to the late Henry Dewey Mumper and Emma Ethyl (Mooney) Mumper.  In addition to his parents and step-mother, Dora (Craft) Harmon Mumper, Cameron is preceded in death by his siblings: his brother, Henry Donald Mumper, his sister, Myrna Almira Mumper, and his step-brother, William Harmon, III.

Cameron’s survivors include his wife of 66 years, Donabell (Kinter) Mumper; his two children: Amy Lynn Neurohr and her husband, John “Jack”, of Mechanicsburg, PA, and Jay Donald Mumper and his wife, Kimberly, of Harrisburg, PA; his four grandchildren: John Neurohr and his wife, Andrea (Maas), with great grandson, Joshua Neurohr, of Valencia, PA, Michael Neurohr, and his wife, Jennifer (Goldbach), of Indian Land, SC, Sarah Mumper, and her companion, Sean Grissinger, of Harrisburg, PA, and Luke Mumper of Carlisle, PA.

Cameron graduated from Punxsutawney High School as part of the class of 1946 and from Carnegie Tech, now known as Carnegie Mellon University, in 1956.  He was a member of Parkwood United Presbyterian Church in Allison Park, PA, from 1958 until 2009 and a member of Monaghan Presbyterian Church in Dillsburg, PA, from 2009 until his death in 2017.  Cameron was a 50 plus year member of the North Hills Lodge F&AM and a former member of the American Legion.    He is a veteran, serving in the United States Army Signal Corps from 1950 to 1952.  He retired as Manager of Telecommunications from Peoples Natural Gas in October of 1989 after 27 years of service.  Donabell recalls that Cameron was well loved and respected by those who worked for him; so much so that one man even delayed retirement for two years just to keep working with Cameron.

Cameron was a dedicated family man, a kind and loving friend, and a talented and creative craftsman. He was the “designated foreman” on numerous remodeling and building projects for many friends and family, as well as for United Methodist Relief in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina for many years following Hurricane Hugo. His selflessness knew no bounds, and we are all better people for having him in our lives.

His children could not have asked for a more caring, supportive father. No matter what, they knew he would always be there for them – there’s nothing more a child can ask of a parent. Cameron quietly supported his children in their activities with behind the scenes leadership, coordination and financial generosity along with personal support for the leaders of organizations including the Boy Scouts of America, Young Life North Hills, and Hampton Band Parent s.

His grandchildren will forever cherish their memories of summer “big boy” and “big girl” vacations spent with “Papa” and “Memaw.” He and Donabell wanted to show their love for their grandchildren by exposing them to the beauty and historical importance of places across the country at a very young age. They will never forget that.

All are welcome to join Cameron’s family at his memorial service on Friday, September 15, 2017, beginning at 10:00 a.m. and for a time of greeting of family and friends immediately following the service at the Chapel at Messiah Lifeways at Messiah Village, 100 Mount Allen Drive, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Rev. Dr. Mark J. Englund-Krieger and Pastor Debby Bentch officiating.  All are also welcome to join Cameron’s family at his memorial service on Saturday, November 11, 2017, beginning at 11:30 a.m. at Parkwood United Presbyterian Church, 4289 Mt. Royal Boulevard, Allison Park, PA 15101; with Reverend Jeffrey Potter officiating.  Cameron’s family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship at Parkwood United Presbyterian Church immediately following that service.  Cremation was private and scattering will be at the family’s convenience.
