Loved His Family -
Carl Leroy Rotz, Sr., age 87, of Mechanicsburg, and formerly of Newville and Carlisle, passed away on Tuesday, November 7, 2017, after living a very fulfilled life. Carl was born on Wednesday, July 23, 1930 in Carlisle to the late Bruce Rotz, Sr. and Carrie (Gelsinger) Rotz. In addition to his parents, Carl is preceded in death by his son, Carl “Rocky” Rotz, Jr.; his three brothers: Irvin Rotz, Bruce Rotz, Jr., Glenn Rotz; and his six sisters: Ida Green, Lela Farner, Katie George, Carrie Jumper, Pauline Starner, Martha Yorletts.
Carl’s survivors include his companion of 45 years, Janet Vogelsong; his six children: Nancy Barkley of Carlisle, Donald Rotz and wife, Deborah, of Carlisle, Cathy Odell and husband, Stuart, of Mechanicsburg, Joy Lentz and husband, Michael, of Newville, Joyce Rotz and husband, Michael Chambers, of Shermansdale, Star Rotz of Mechanicsburg; his daughter-in-law, Michele Rotz of Shermansdale; his 13 grandchildren; his 21 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Carl was a self-employed excavator as well as a former truck driver and race car driver. He loved horses and was a past member of Bonny Brook Riding Club and of Racing Old Timers Club. Carl enjoyed watching any type of racing, especially NASCAR. He was known as the king of storytelling at the Morning Coffee Club. This was a group of friends who got together often for breakfast. The most important thing to him was his family. He cherished the time he got to spend with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his whole family will miss him dearly.
All are welcome to join Carl’s family at his viewing on Monday, November 13, 2017, from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 11:30 a.m. at Myers - Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Major John Riley and Major Alma Riley officiating. Burial will follow in Longsdorf Cemetery in Mechanicsburg. Carl’s family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship at the New Kingstown Fire Company, 277 North Locust Point Road, New Kingstown, PA 17072, following the burial.
