Carlo “Taccariello” Palumbo

Hardworking and Driven -

Carlo “Taccariello” Palumbo, age 71, of Mechanicsburg, passed away, as a veteran, on Veteran”s Day, Friday, November 11, 2016, with many of his family members by his side.  Carlo was born on Tuesday, July 24, 1945 in Bacoli, Napoli in Italy to the late Antonio Palumbo and Anna (Tiano) Palumbo.  In addition to his parents, Carlo is preceded in death by his two brothers: Gennaro Palumbo and Vincenzo Palumbo.

Carlo’s survivors include his wife of 43 years, Rosa (Costagliola) Palumbo; his three sons: Antonio “Anthony” Palumbo and his wife, Kelly, of Camp Hill, Carlo Palumbo, Jr. and his wife, Brittany, of Mechanicsburg, Guiseppe “Joey” Palumbo of Mechanicsburg; his four grandchildren: Julian, Julianna, Luca, Gabriella Palumbo; his three sisters: Maria Palumbo of Tirieste, Italy, Giovanna Palumbo of Napoli, Italy, Teresa Palumbo of Eden, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Carlo himself was a veteran who served in the Italian army.  After his service in the military, Carlo went into the field of construction.  There he learned the fundamentals which led him to America to better his life for himself and his family.

In 1970, Carlo made his start in Brooklyn, New York with a bag of tools and sixty dollars in his pocket.  He initially worked by renovating homes throughout the city.  His skills eventually allowed him to venture out on his own where he began to take on commercial jobs.  He had a knack for restaurant-building, which landed him jobs from New York to North Carolina.  Known for his workmanship and economical approach, Carlo quickly made a name for himself in America and Italy.  He became the go-to guy for building restaurants.  After building many stores, he saw how successful the owners became and decided to open his own.

In opening his first restaurant, Carlo discovered his passion for cooking. Feeding and entertaining his friends and family brought him so much joy.  Carlo could often be seen walking throughout the dining rooms of his restaurants, DaVinci’s and Palumbo’s, after dinner service conversing and sharing a bottle of his homemade wine with guests.  Being a hard-working man left Carlo with little free time.  His hobbies were fishing, hunting, gardening, and wine-making. Although diligent and dedicated, he always made time for family, especially on holidays.

As role model and inspiration to many, Carlo exemplified the meaning of living the American dream. His selflessness and work ethic are just a small part of the legacy that will live on through his children and grandchildren. He will be remembered by his quote, “I am doing all of this for you guys.” He will truly be missed.

All are welcome to join Carlo’s family at his viewing on Thursday, November 17, 2016, from 10:00 a.m. until time of Mass of Christian Burial at 1:00 p.m. at Church of the Good Shepherd, 3435 East Trindle Road, Camp Hill, PA 17055; with the Very Reverend Philip G. Burger celebrating.  Burial will follow in Rolling Green Cemetery in Camp Hill.
