Carol Ann (Smith) Stone

A Passion to Help and Love Others -

Today we celebrate the life and mourn the passing of our beloved Carol Ann Smith-Stone. On the morning of Saturday, October 13, 2018, she slipped out of time and into eternity answering God’s call of “well done good and faithful servant, enter into joy of our Lord”.  Carol was born on September 1, 1948, to the late Nancy Lewis Smith and Corbett Smith in Brooklyn, NY.  She was educated in the New York City Public School system and graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in Brooklyn, NY.

Carol met and married James “Smokey” Ramos Stone in 1967 and from that union five children were born: Evette, Michele, Tanya, James “Ryan”, Jr., and Samantha. She later met her second love of her life, Albert “Sonny” Trotman, and had two more children: Emerald and Candice.  She also had children that God blessed her with whom she called her God Children: Claudio “Joey”, Nanette, and Dionne.  She obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services at Hunter College in New York, NY and Master’s degree in Divinity at World Harvest Bible College in Sacramento, CA.

Carol’s journey in life revealed several aspects of her character, personality, strengths, and interests, one of which was an interest in community outreach and activism.  She started working with Mary Cook, founder of Young Troupers Organization in 1960.  Carol became involved in the advocacy and organizing of youth in the community.  She was well known and respected for her poise, fiery approach, and commitment to this cause.  Carol was not deterred by the obstacles and challenges of local politics and policies that impacted the lives of young people.  She was a fierce warrior and served the Brownsville community well for several years.  Carol worked for the American Red Cross shelters in New York City and feeding the Homeless and Group homes in Sacramento, CA.

Each of us brings to the world unique talents, gifts, and abilities. This uniqueness makes us all valuable to the world. We are each as unique and valuable as the other.  It was designed that way, “a gift from God”.  Carol’s undying and devoted faith was her gift from God; she used this gift to touch the lives of others in so many ways.  God was her faithful companion and she carried her ministry in her heart.  No one who has touched a life and has brought beauty to the world is ever truly gone.  She had a passion to help and love others. They leave something of themselves behind for others to hold onto.  May the good she left behind last forever, may her name and good deeds be raised and remembered for surely she has risen to the heavens where the angels have welcomed her with open arms.

She leaves to celebrate her life and cherish her memories her 20 grandchildren: Giovanni, Khrystle, Paris, Matthew, Jose, Andrew, Brian, Tatiana, N’Dia, Breanna, Micah, Sumorrie, Solomon, Zion, Khai, Ariyah, Chaim, James III, Michele and Joy as well as her six great-grandchildren: Mia, Derek “DJ” Jr., Kaleah, Brian Jr., Kalani and Brielle.
