Caroline Helen (Russell) DeMartyn

Caroline Helen (Russell) DeMartyn, age 94, of Harrisburg, and formerly of Mechanicsburg and Enola, passed away on Saturday, February 10, 2024.  Caroline was born on Saturday, August 10, 1929, in Harrisburg to the late Ralph Russell and Margaret (Shoop) Russell.  Caroline was the widow of Harry Oswald DeMartyn, whom she married on January 14, 1950, and who died on July 31, 2008.  In addition to her parents and husband, Caroline is preceded in death by her two sons: Kenneth DeMartyn, Donald DeMartyn; her grandson, Michael Lynn Wagner; her step grandson, Bobby Lyons; and her three siblings: Arlene Russell, John Russell, and Mary Keeton.

Caroline’s survivors include her daughter, Barbara Ann Beatty and her husband, Jim, of Mifflintown; her granddaughter, Dawn Flemming and her husband, Stan; her three step grandchildren: Jennifer Miller, Mike Beatty, Paula Beatty; her three great grandchildren: Reece, Liam, Allisa; her seven step great grandchildren: Cheyenne, Faith, Morgan, Briea, Tanika, Makayla, Brook; and her two siblings: Clarence “Skip” Russell of Mechanicsburg and Dolores “Dolly” Fleager of Dillsburg.

Caroline was employed by Home Life Insurance of America, serving as an office manager for many years.  She could also be found working at the post office in the Uptown Shopping Center in Harrisburg.  Caroline enjoyed crafts as a creative outlet. She loved bingo, and played regularly.  Caroline made sure to make time for family. Spending time with her loved ones would always keep her smiling.  She will be dearly missed by those who were fortunate enough to have known her.

All are welcome to join Caroline’s family at her viewing on Friday, February 16, 2024, from 11:15 a.m. until time of service at 12:15 p.m. at Buhrig Funeral & Cremation, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Reverend George Spangler officiating.  Caroline’s family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship at Buhrig’s Gathering Place (next to the funeral home) immediately following the service. Burial will follow the reception in Dauphin Cemetery in Dauphin.
