Charles ‘Charlie’ Dunlevey, age 76, of Shiremanstown, Pennsylvania, died on Tuesday January 7, 2025, at home with his loving wife of 47 years, Judy Souleret, by his side. Charlie was born in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, to the late Frank and Mary (Hirsch) Dunlevey. In addition to Judy, Charlie is survived by his daughter Elizabeth Dunlevey and husband Joe Peifer; grandchildren Nancy and Roger Peifer; and brother Dr. Frank Dunlevey and wife Kathe.
For over 35 years Charlie proudly worked for the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission. His most notable achievements were guiding historic sites to be listed on the National Register of Historic Places, transforming the academic bookstore to a gift shop that no child could resist, and growing the Mobile Museum to an in-demand attraction that toured the state. Charlie was most remembered for his extensive knowledge of all things Pennsylvania and his passion for military history.
Charlie was a devoted son and caretaker to his widowed mother for nearly 30 years. In retirement Charlie moved seamlessly to the role of caregiver, first for his late mother-in-law Edna and then for his beloved grandchildren. Grandpap was the light of their lives as much as they were the light of his life.
Family would like to express sincere appreciation to Homeland Hospice for the loving care and support provided to Charlie and Judy by his nursing aide, Misty and RN, Batya.
A philosophy graduate of Mount Saint Paul College, Charlie was known for his intellectual curiosity, incisive analysis, disdain for pretense and steadfast friendships. Not surprisingly, Charlie asked that in lieu flowers or trees, that you do something to help a person in need.
