Charles Forney Snyder, Jr., age 69, of Mechanicsburg, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, June 1, 2016. Charles was born on Sunday, March 9, 1947, in Etters, PA to the late Charles Forney Snyder, Sr. and Katherine (Keys) Snyder Hoppes. In addition to his parents, Charles is preceded in death by his brother, Robert Snyder; and his sister, Bertha Johnson.
Charles’s survivors include his two sisters: Elizabeth Grosser of Mechanicsburg, Violet Smith of Dillsburg; and several nieces and nephews.
Charles served in and retired from the United States Army as a staff sergeant. For his time in Vietnam, Charles earned a Vietnam Service Medal and Vietnam Campaign Medal. He was awarded an Expert Rifle Badge, as well. Charles loved to serve his country so much that he continued his service in the Army Reserve after retiring. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and outdoorsman. Charles loved being outdoors and mountain biking. He enjoyed watching NASCAR, golf, football, and baseball. His favorite teams were the Pittsburgh Steelers, Philadelphia Phillies, and the Detroit Tigers. Charles is fondly remembered as a most down-to-earth and wonderful person. He was a real family man who adored his family, and they will miss Charles dearly.
All are welcome to join Charles’s family at his graveside service with military honors on Friday, June 10, 2016, beginning at 2:00 p.m. at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery in Annville, PA 17003.
