Charles Lyons Swinehart, age 94, of Camp Hill, died at his home on Friday, August 24, 2018.  Charles was born on Saturday, June 28, 1924 in Youngdale, PA to the late Charles B. Swinehart and Dorothy P. (Stabley) Swinehart.  Charles was the widower of Marian Louise (Diehl) Swinehart, whom he married on July 19, 1952, and who died on June 7, 1986.  In addition to his parents and wife, Charles is preceded in death by his Baby Boy Swinehart; his brother, Carl Swinehart; and his beloved pets: Tiny, Tom, Sambo and Tippy.

Charles’ survivors include his two loving daughters: Linda Smith of Enola and Judy Reisch of Marysville; his four grandchildren: Tammy Yetter and her husband, Grant, Jeremy Smith and his wife, Nikole, Erika Reisch and her partner, Thomas Rodkey, and Nick Smith; his two great-grandchildren: Devon Smith and Taylor Smith; his three sisters: Hazel Ford, Calla Mae Krupa, and Delores Peterson; and his beloved pets: Clover and Juliet.

Charles proudly served his country during World War II as part of the United States Army’s Second Armored Division.  He fought in the Battle of the Bulge and helped to liberate two concentration camps.  Charles was a veteran and life member of the Veterans of Foreign War Post 7530, the American Legion Post 974 and Hell on Wheels.  He was also a life member of the Mechanicsburg Sportsman’s Club and he loved block shoots.  He worked until his retirement as a lineman for Henkels and McCoy.  Charles was an avid hunter and fisherman as well as a loyal fan of the Phillies, Eagles, Steelers, Penn State and Notre Dame.  He enjoyed yard sales and his Sunday rides when he would drive around with his family and tell stories.  A wonderful neighbor, Charles was always helping those who lived around him and they in turn helped him in his later years.  Above all, Charles adored his children and grandchildren who always felt his love and support.  He will be dearly missed and always remembered.

All are welcome to join Charles’ family at his viewing on Thursday, August 30, 2018, from 12:30 p.m. until time of service at 1:30 p.m. at Myers - Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Celebrant George A. Spangler officiating.  Burial will follow in Rolling Green Cemetery in Camp Hill, where military honors will be presented by the Cumberland County Honor Guard.  Honored to be pallbearers are: Erika Reisch, Tom Rodkey, Jeremy Smith, Nick Smith, Grant Yetter, and Tammy Yetter.  Charles’ family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship at VFW Memorial Post 6704, 4907 Carlisle Pike, Mechanicsburg, PA 17050 following the burial.
