Charles “Charlie” Walter Blazer

A Jokester With a Big Heart -

Charles “Charlie” Walter Blazer, age 79, of Mechanicsburg, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, May 20, 2019.  Charlie was born on Sunday, March 24, 1940 in Lewisberry to the late Carl Blazer and Alvede (Zinn) Blazer.  Charlie was the widower of Patricia Kay (Hammaker) Blazer, whom he was married to for 43 years, and who died on February 3, 2014.  In addition to his parents and wife, Charlie is preceded in death by his daughter, Marie Longey; and his two sisters: Phyllis Shoop and Dixie Runk.

Charlie’s survivors include his three children: Barbara “Barb” Brookover and her husband, Scott, of Etters, Brian Blazer and his wife, Stephanie, of Hummelstown, Donald “Don” Blazer and his companion, Paula Moore, of Mechanicsburg; his six grandchildren: Tara, Mandi, Justin, Jennifer, Kyla, Jessica; his two great-grandchildren; his two brothers: Ronald “Ron” Blazer and his wife, Mary Jane, of Mechanicsburg, Larry Blazer of Lewisberry; his two sisters: Shirley Snyder of York Haven, Linda Aloise and her husband, Lou, of Shermans Dale; and several nieces and nephews.

Charlie graduated from New Cumberland High School as part of the class of 1958 and served in the United States National Guard.  He retired from Seaboard Tanklines, Inc. in Mechanicsburg, after nearly 15 years of service.  Charlie worked his whole life as a truck driver, often transporting fuel.  He enjoyed going to the local sprint car races, especially at Williams Grove Speedway where, on occasion, he would help park cars in the lots.  Charlie was also a big NASCAR fan and loved to cheer on Dale Earnhardt, Sr. and then, Dale Earnhardt, Jr.  He liked to watch football and it didn’t matter what teams were playing; any game that was on, was a good game.  Charlie loved to go to the fire company carnivals and savor in all the delicious foods.  He was quite the jokester with a big heart.  Charlie was a very loving husband to his wife, Pat, and a caring man to all members of his family.

All are welcome to join Charlie’s family at his gathering of family and friends on Friday, May 24, 2019, from 12:00 p.m. until time of service at 1:00 p.m. at Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Celebrant George A. Spangler officiating. Interment in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens will be at the convenience of the family.  Cremation was private.
