Claire Marie (Cressman) McVitty

Claire Marie (Cressman) McVitty, 96, of Mechanicsburg , died at Bethany Village on Sunday, October 6, 2013.  She was born in Bloomsburg, on Thursday, June 28, 1917, daughter of the late Paul L. Cressman, Sr. and Lenora (LeClaire) Cressman.  Claire was the widow of Lawrence F. McVitty.

Claire’s survivors include her brother, Paul Cressman and his wife Thelma; her children, Karen Schaeffer and her husband Charles, William McVitty and his wife Gail; her grandchildren,  David, Douglas (Brooke), Daniel, Michael (Gena), and James (Vanessa); her great-grandchildren, Gino (Nicole), Ramone, Andre, Lauren, and Emma; her great-great granddaughter, Aiyana; and several nieces and nephews. Among those preceding Claire in death is her sister, Hazel Stauffer.

Claire retired as an elementary education school teacher for the Indiana (PA) Area School District and had previously taught in the Hershey School District .  Claire was a member of Mechanicsburg Presbyterian Church in Mechanicsburg, where she served as a deacon and was also a member of United Presbyterian Women .  She was a member of PSEA , Phi Delta Kappa and Alpha Sigma Alpha sorority.

Services and burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.  The family suggests memorial contributions to Bethany Village Staff Appreciation Fund , 325 Wesley Drive, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055, Hospice of Central PA , 1320 Linglestown Road, Harrisburg, PA 17110, or her church, 300 East Simpson Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055.
