Had a Smile for Everyone -

Clara “Jane” (Rudy) Cassell, age 89, of Carlisle , and formerly of Elliottsburg , died at Thornwald Home on Tuesday, May 19, 2015.  Jane was born on Sunday, September 6, 1925 in Wernersville, PA to the late Howard L. Rudy and Violet May Rudy.  In addition to her parents, Jane is preceded in death by her grandsons: Toby Showers, Joshua Cassell; her siblings:  Paul Rudy, Wilbur Rudy, Stanley Rudy, Beverly Talada; and her former husbands:  David Evelhoch and Bertram Cassell.

Jane’s survivors include her nine children: Sara Mae “Sally” Glenn of Carlisle, John Cassell and his wife, Leslie, Steve Cassell and his wife, Cathy, Thomas Cassell, Mary Martin, Benjamin Cassell, Jacob Cassell, Nancy Cassell of Carlisle, Judy Gardner and her husband, Bill; her 21 grandchildren; her numerous great-grandchildren; her four great-great-grandchildren; her five sisters; and several nieces and nephews.

Jane retired from Wal-Mart in Mechanicsburg in 2004, after 10 years of service.  She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Carlisle Ward since 1935, where she enthusiastically worked in the nursery and with children, ages 18 months to 12 years.  Jane was a woman of tremendous talent, especially in cooking, baking, and making fudge to sell.  She loved birds, hummingbirds, and flowers; and she enjoyed planting her garden, sewing, knitting, and crocheting.  Jane’s strong testimony to God and Jesus Christ were visible through the way she lived her life.  She was forgiving, and all who met her liked Jane because she had a smile for everyone.  Jane’s family will remember her always as a deeply devoted mother.

All are welcome to join Jane’s family at her viewing on Tuesday, May 26, 2015, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Myers - Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory , 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; and on Wednesday, May 27, 2015, from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m., and her service at 11:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints – Carlisle Ward , 216 Skyline Drive, Mechanicsburg, PA 17050; with Bishop Matthew Candland officiating.  Burial will follow in Mechanicsburg Cemetery in Mechanicsburg.  Jane’s family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship at her church following the burial.  Honored to be pallbearers are: Eric Cassell, Jason Cassell, Justin Cassell, Tommy Cassell, Andy Glenn, and Randy Stone.

In lieu of flowers or memorial contributions, the family suggests performing an act of kindness for someone or brightening someone’s day by sharing flowers.
