“Wish I had a Wendy’s Frosty”

Clara Irene (Smyser) Shopp, age 99, of Mechanicsburg died at Carlisle Regional Medical Center on Monday, January 11, 2016, after a brief illness.  Clara was born on Monday, October 30, 1916 in Lisburn, PA to the late John Harry Smyser and Amanda Deckman (Casey) Smyser.  Clara was the widow of Milton David Shopp, whom she married in May of 1943, and who died in October of 1944.  In addition to her parents and husband, Clara is preceded in death by five brothers: Franklin, William, Paul, Mosser, and Robert Smyser and three sisters; Nettie Zimmerman, Fannie Heilner, and Annie Heiges.

Clara’s survivors include her siblings: Merle Smyser and his wife, Joyce, of Mechanicsburg, Evelyn McGuire of Mechanicsburg, of Mechanicsburg, and several nieces and nephews.

Clara retired from Fry Publications in Mechanicsburg, after many years of service working as a book binder; having previously worked at OK Holmes Letter Shop and at the state capitol as a clerk. Clara loved the outdoors which led to her love of gardening; so much so, she mowed her lawn with a push mower and raked her leaves herself up until she was 97.  Clara will be remembered fondly forever for saying, “Wish I had a Wendy’s Frosty.”

Clara’s family will be remembering her life privately.  Interment in St. John’s Cemetery in Mechanicsburg, PA will be at the family’s convenience.  Cremation was private.

The family suggests memorial contributions to American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 897, Hershey, PA 17033.

Clara’s family has entrusted her care to Myers – Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory in Mechanicsburg, (717) 766-3421.  Read Clara’s full obituary and sign her official guest book at www.Myers-Buhrig.com .
