Clyde “Frank” Uhler

Clyde “Frank” Uhler, age 78, of Mechanicsburg, became one of the Lord’s angels on Wednesday, May 26, 2021.  Frank was born on Monday, May 24, 1943, in Camden, NJ to the late Joseph Uhler and Helen Rana (Nye) Uhler.  Frank was the widower of Cathi Lois (Patterson) Uhler, whom he married on February 5, 1989, and who died on March 15, 2002.  In addition to his parents and wife, Frank is preceded in death by his brother, Joseph Uhler, III.

Frank’s survivors include his four children: Misty Ferrara and husband, Tom, of Houston, TX, Jill Uhler of Aiken, SC, Jane Jackson and husband, Rodney, of Mechanicsburg, PA, Steven “Steve” Uhler and wife, Kaitlynn, of Marysville, PA; his two stepchildren: Christian “Chris” Patterson of Asbury Park, NJ, Rebecca “Becky” Patterson of Harrisburg, PA; his three grandchildren: Joseph Ferrara, Connor Jackson, Claire Jackson; his four siblings: John Uhler of Mesquite, NV, Larry Uhler and wife, Rhonda, of Harrisburg, PA, Joanne Hertzler and husband, Ron, of Mechanicsburg, PA, Rachel Lerch and husband, Bob, of Centreville, VA; and several nieces and nephews.

Frank, who grew up with the nickname of “Frankie”, served in the U.S. Army for 20 years and completed three tours in Vietnam during the Vietnam War.  During Vietnam, he was part of seven different campaigns.  Frank served as a tactical communications systems operator and mechanic for the 56th Air Defense Artillery in Europe.  He received The Army Commendation Medal in 1981 along with various other honors and notable awards.

Upon retiring from active duty, Frank worked for the Navy base in Mechanicsburg, Pa. for 27 years, having a combined 47 years of federal service.  He thoroughly enjoyed maintaining any vehicle he had in his possession, making sure not to leave it messy or dirty.  He was a guy who was always on the go and rarely could be found sitting around.  There were many ways he would find to keep himself busy, as he did not enjoy wasting his free time.

A skilled woodworker, Frank spent many years tinkering in garages, building everything from cabinets to spice racks to children’s toys.  He loved Chevy trucks, hunting, fishing and cooking.  His taste buds preferred foods that were more on the spicy side, which could sometimes be relentless.  Very active in the kitchen, he loved to cook, especially on the grill.  He had a deep passion for gardening and canning, always having the biggest garden in the neighborhood.

All are welcome to join Frank’s family at his in-person and virtual gathering of family and friends on Thursday, June 3, 2021, from 12:00 p.m. until time of service at 1:00 p.m. followed by a committal ceremony with military honors presented by the Cumberland County Honor Guard, all at Buhrig Funeral Home & Crematory, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Celebrant George Spangler officiating.  Friends and family are invited for a time of food and fellowship at Buhrig’s Gathering Place, 25 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055, (717) 766-3421 (next to Buhrig Funeral Home & Crematory), immediately following the service.  More than 100 parking spaces are available; just look for the “Buhrig” parking signs in all of our parking lots.  Cremation will be private and at the convenience of the family.
