Dana “Dan” Ray Yingling, Sr., age 77, of Mechanicsburg, and formerly of Pittsburgh, died unexpectedly on Saturday, October 8, 2022. Dan was born on Thursday, February 22, 1945, in Latrobe to the late Earl Leo Yingling and Dorothy Mae (Trump) Yingling. In addition to his parents, Dan is preceded in death by his brother, Roy Yingling; and his beloved feline companion, Izek.
Dan’s survivors include his loving wife of 49 years, Kathryn “Kathy” Evelyn (Lersch) Yingling; his daughter, Diana Blevins and her husband, Mark, of Parkton, MD; his two sons: Dana Yingling, Jr. of Camp Hill; Daryl Yingling of Storrs, CT; his two granddaughters: McKenzie and Julianna; his two sisters: Karen Yingling and Sue Yingling; and several nieces and nephews.
Dan graduated from Fox Chapel Area High School in Pittsburgh and served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He retired in 2003 from the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) in Harrisburg, after many years of service working as a systems analyst. Dan was very interested in mechanical things and took great joy in fixing everything. He was a fan of Caterpillar construction equipment and enjoyed sitting on bulldozers. Dan owned and restored a 1979 MG, loved riding Harley Davidson and Triumph motorcycles, liked flying remote control helicopters and was a model building enthusiast. He also enjoyed getting his fill of history by visiting Gettysburg. Dan truly loved life and was a soft spoken, genuinely kind person that was always willing to help others. Above all else, family was most important to him. He was the fun Pappy and loved doting on his granddaughters. Dan will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
