Daniel Vincent Scambia, Jr.
A Solitary Man -
Daniel Vincent Scambia Jr., 82, of Harrisburg and formerly of Mechanicsburg and Hazelton died at Golden Living Center in Camp Hill on Wednesday, January 18, 2012. He was born in Hazleton on Tuesday, May 14, 1929 son of the late Daniel Vincent Scambia Sr. and Louise (Rubina) Scambia.
Daniel retired from the Naval Ship’s Parts Control Center in Mechanicsburg. He was a simple man who lived a solitary life and was free from worldly greed. Daniel was known for not owning a car opting instead to ride his bicycle everywhere. He loved riding so much that he rode his bike to and from Mechanicsburg to Philadelphia. A fall while walking and the resulting broken leg ended his bicycling days.
Daniel never owned a television preferring to watch people. He was an avid people watcher and he greatly enjoyed greeting everyone who came and went. Daniel loved food and especially enjoyed potato salad (his favorite) as well as spaghetti and meatballs. One of Daniels greatest joys was watching and singing along with Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers as they danced “Cheek to Cheek.”
Daniel’s survivors include his kindhearted landlord and friend, Nicole "Nicki" Lee Hook, who cared for Daniel until the very end. He is also survived by his deceased uncle’s wife: Christine La Monica of Hazleton; and seven cousins: Angela La Monica Moore, Donald Stish Sr, Robert Stish, Richard Stish, Jackie Stish, Franklin Stish and Nancy Scambia Toole.
