Daniel “Dan” Francis Madfisch

Kind & Warm-hearted -

Daniel “Dan” Francis Madfisch, age 62, of Shiremanstown , died at home on Thursday, December 4, 2014.  Dan was born on Tuesday, March 18, 1952 in Pittsburgh to the late Anthony Madfisch and Viola Mae (Harmon) Madfisch.  In addition to his parents, Dan is preceded in death by his former wife, Rosemary (Hunkele) Haught; his son, Daniel Francis Madfisch, Jr.; and his brother, Sonny Madfisch.

Dan’s survivors include his wife of five years, Jaime Rene (Cooper) Madfisch; his children: Tarl Madfisch and his wife, Kandis, of Florida, Michelle McKean and her husband, Shawn, of Camp Hill, Angela Hesse and her husband, Ray Bennett, of Washington, Elena Madfisch of Missouri; his seven grandchildren; his sisters: Nancy Shields and Helen McCoy; his former wife, Belinda Sousley, of Missouri; and several nieces and nephews.

Dan was a Vietnam War veteran , serving as a translator in the U.S. Air Force .  He retired in 2012 from the State Correctional Institution in Camp Hill, after 20 years of service working as a correctional officer.  Dan was a member of the American Legion in New Cumberland, where he served as a board member.  Dan was “Pittsburgh proud” and an avid Steelers fan.  Among other hobbies, Dan liked playing video games and collecting coins, and he loved reading.  Dan was ecstatic to have grandchildren and he was very proud of them and his children.  His family remembers Dan as a special, kind, warm-hearted person who pushed through the pain in his life.

All are welcome to join Dan’s family at his gathering of family and friends on Tuesday, December 16, 2014 from 12:00 p.m. until time of service at 1:00 p.m. at Myers - Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory , 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with celebrant George Spangler officiating.  Interment will follow in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery in Annville, where military honors will be presented.  Cremation was private.
