David E. Brooks, age 75, of Mechanicsburg, died on Sunday, July 21, 2024. David was born on Saturday, November 13, 1948, in Mechanicsburg to the late David Walter Brooks and Elsie Mae (Liddick) Brooks. David was the widower of Delores “Dee” Mae (Himes) Brooks, whom he married on July 8, 1972, and who died on September 16, 2002. In addition to his parents and wife, David is preceded in death by his sister, Irene Wiegner, and his beloved pets, Cody and Queenie.
David was a loving husband, father, and friend. Survivors include his daughter: Shawn Nicole (Brooks) Ward and her husband, Bryan Ward; his three grandsons: Austin Ward, Zachary Ward, and Kyle Ward; his four stepdaughters: Jody Walters, Kim Harter, Sharon Shipman, and Pat Dietz Merris; and his nephew, Bobby Wiegner and his significant other, Erica Zerphey.
David graduated from Mechanicsburg Area Senior High School as part of the class of 1966. After graduating, David enlisted in the US Army where he served our country for four years. He retired from the New Cumberland Army Depot, after many years of service working as a material handler. David enjoyed bowling and playing horseshoes. He also loved NASCAR. He was an avid Dallas Cowboys and Notre Dame fan. David enjoyed going to Penn National with his daughter and his sister to watch the horse races.
He was known as a friendly man who would talk to anybody. David will be dearly missed by all those fortunate to have been in his life. He had a thoughtful and gracious nature, and will be terribly missed by those lucky enough to have met him.
All are welcome to join David’s family at his viewing on Saturday, July 27, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. with a service at 10:45 a.m. at Buhrig Funeral & Cremation, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Celebrant George Spangler officiating. Entombment in Rolling Green Cemetery in Camp Hill, PA will take place at 12:00 p.m.
