David “Dave” “PopPop” Edward Warnock, Sr., age 74, of Harrisburg, and formerly of Springfield, passed away peacefully while being comforted by his loving family on Thursday, January 19, 2017, after a long battle with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Dave was born on Friday, January 1, 1943 in Upper Darby Township to the late Louis Albert Warnock, II and Ruth (McDowell) Warnock. In addition to his parents, Dave is preceded in death by his three siblings: Louis, Ruth, and Marguerite.

Dave graduated from Springfield High School as part of the class of 1960 and from Drexel Institute of Technology in 1965 with a Bachelor of Science degree in commerce. Early in his career Dave was a high school math teacher before he began working as a salesman in the petroleum industry. He worked for Advanced Lubrication Specialties for almost 10 years as sales representative. Dave loved sports and enjoyed playing golf as well as bowling on the many leagues he was a part of. His favorite pastime was horse racing; Dave even owned some of his own and his favorite horse was named “Star Receiver”. When it came to betting on the races, Dave became known as “the world’s greatest handicapper”. He liked to go to the casinos in Atlantic City, NJ and most recently to Hollywood Casino.
Most importantly, Dave loved his family and cherished the time they spent together. He relished in the family vacations they took together to Ocean City, NJ. Dave was like a big kid; he would play with the kids by going to the arcades and competing in go-kart racing. He absolutely loved watching his grandkids participate in their activities. His granddaughters referred to him as their greatest and loudest cheerleader at their cheer competitions. Dave will be missed dearly by his entire family; they hold many memories close to their hearts.
