A True Friend -
Delbert “Del” William Wass, 74, of Shiremanstown, died at Holy Spirit Hospital on Monday, October 1, 2012. He was born in Harrisburg on Friday, September 2, 1938, son of the late Vernon Carl Wass and Dorothy Linda (Dapp) Wass. Del was the husband of Linda Kay (Bobb) Wass whom he married on November 5, 1966.
Del graduated from Susquehanna Twp. High School as part of the class of 1957. He retired from Lower Allen Township Police after 26 years of service working as a police officer. Following retirement, Del was a DUI coordinator for Cumberland County and later returned to work for Lower Allen Township as a community service officer. He was a member of F.O.P. Tri-County Lodge 76. Del was a veteran of the US Army.
Del loved to spend time with his family and especially enjoyed his grandchildren taking him to play the slots. He was an avid camper and treasured fishing with his daughter. Del was described by all as a “true friend."
Del’s survivors include his loving wife of 45 years, Linda; his loving daughters, Katrina Kay Updike and her husband Robert of Dover and Tara Suzanne Wass and friend Matt of Denver, CO; a sister, Linda Surenichak of CA; a sister-in-law, Nancy Wass; and several nieces and nephews. Among those preceding Del in death are two brothers, George and Carl Wass.
All are welcome to join Del’s family at his visitation on Monday, October 8, 2012, from 10:00 until time of service at 11:00 at Mount Pleasant Church of God, 146 South York Road, Dillsburg, with Pastor Tom Myers officiating . Military honors will be presented by the Cumberland County Honor Guard immediately following the service. Cremation was private and at the family’s convenience.
The family suggests memorial contributions to a charity of one’s choice.
