Dennis “Denny” Eugene Wenger
Dennis “Denny” Eugene Wenger, age 70, of Harrisburg, and formerly of Chambersburg, passed away on Sunday, October 2, 2022. Denny was born on Saturday, October 13, 1951, in Shippensburg to the late Charles Leroy Wenger and Ruth (Oberholser) Wenger.
Denny’s survivors include his two sons: Brian M. Wenger and his wife, Camille, of Camp Hill; Christopher “Chris” M. Wenger and his wife, Angela, of Mechanicsburg; his six grandchildren: Alyssa, Benjamin, Daniel, Isaac, Leah and Zachary Wenger; his brother, Dale E. Wenger and his wife, Lynn, of Huntington Valley; his sister, Beverly “Bev” Sollenberger and her husband, Nelson, of St. Thomas; and several nieces and nephews.
Dennis held many different positions of employment throughout his working life, most revolving around accounting, business, or business law. After graduating from Shippensburg High School and finishing his Business Administration degree at Messiah College in 1972, he went on to earn an MBA from Shippensburg University, and a Masters in Healthcare Administration from Kaplan University. He valued education, and passed that value along to his children and younger generations as he taught courses at varying local colleges.
In addition to his professional commitments, Dennis was active in church, wherever he found himself: he served as treasurer in several different congregations over the span of his life, most recently at MCC of the Spirit in Harrisburg, PA where he also served as an usher. He was active in ministering to university students through the Coalition of Christian Outreach at Shippensburg University for many years.
Dennis also had a passion for serving in his local community. He has been a board member for CROSS (Christian Residential Opportunities and Social Services), a longtime member of the Chambersburg Rotary Club, served on the board of University Community Missions, and most recently has served on the Finance Committee for Alder Health Services.
He had a love of architecture, especially that of Frank Lloyd Wright. He was fortunate enough to travel to see several of his houses. He also had a love of crafting. In his semi-retirement these last few years, Dennis cultivated his passion and developed a great craftsmanship. He spent hours studying different skills and using what he learned to create many wonderful pieces which led him into a small business of selling at the Antique Market in Carlisle. Dennis had a love for cooking and was always on the lookout for a new recipe to experiment with. There was never a Christmas that went by where there wasn’t at least one new cookie for everyone to try.
