Dianne Carol (Beers) Souders
A Really Big Heart -
Dianne Carol (Beers) Souders, age 75, of Mechanicsburg, passed away at her daughter’s home in Lancaster surrounded by her family on Friday, October 2, 2020. Dianne was born June 26, 1945, in Harrisburg to the late Harold Eugene Beers and Leola Esther (Demmy) Beers. Dianne was the widow of Robert Mearl Hollinger, whom she was married to for almost 20 years. In addition to her parents and her first husband, Dianne is preceded in death by her infant son, David Hollinger; her two brothers, William and Robert Beers; her sister, Kitty Lee (Beers) Peters and her three beloved canine companions, Buddy, Harvey and Bear.
Dianne’s survivors include her husband of 16 years, Frederick “Fred” Souders; her four children: Billie Jo Devine and husband Jeffrey of Lancaster, Robin Villaronga and husband Raul of Mechanicsburg, Jodie Gross and husband Daniel of Mechanicsburg, Robert “Bob” Hollinger and wife Melissa of Lancaster; her seven grandchildren: Danielle, Christopher, Shawn, Jennifer, Austin, Tyler, Logan; her three great-grandchildren: Noah, Clara, Samantha; her two brothers: Harold E. Beers and wife Jeanne of Harrisburg, Kenneth W. Beers and wife Sandy of Mechanicsburg; several nieces and nephews; and her beloved cat and dog: Macy Gray and Trixie.
When Dianne’s children were young, she was a wonderful stay-at-home mom and homemaker. She was also a proud Cub Scout leader. Once times changed and she had to work outside the home, she ventured into a variety of jobs, some of which were working in the warehouse of Kinney Shoes and Book-of-the-Month Club. She also was a clerk at many retail stores such as Lowe’s, Home Depot and Kohls. One of her most rewarding was being a Certified Nursing Assistant at several nursing homes and Hospice.
Dianne cared deeply for her family and always had a big heart for others. There were many holidays that she invited someone in need so they would not be alone. Even though she did not have much, she loved entertaining people in her home. Christmas time was her favorite season, and her children have so many fond memories and how she made the holiday special. She cherished family vacations at Disney World and going to the beach.
She expressed her creative side through drawing, painting, ceramics, creating dioramas and other crafts. Some of her favorite past times were reading Amish fiction books, Sudoku, shopping and especially watching the Hallmark channel. Throughout the years, her family has been the most important thing to her. She loved and cared for all her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and all her fur-babies. Even days before her passing she smiled affectionately when she saw a picture of her newest great-grand baby who was just born. The love that filled Dianne’s big heart brought Fred and her family together, and they will all miss her very much.
