Donald “Boonie” Norman Boone, age 89, of Shiremanstown, died at his son’s home in Enola on Saturday, July 2 2022. Boonie was born on Saturday, August 27, 1932 in Harrisburg to the late Norman Clarence Boone and Anna Minerva (Dengler) Boone. In addition to his parents, Boonie is preceded in death by his loving and devoted wife, Corrine Arlene (Johnson) Boone, who he married on June 22, 1963 and who died on November 13, 2017.
Boonie’s survivors include his son, David D. Boone and his wife, Nannette, of Enola; and his grand-dog, Oprah.
Boonie graduated from William Penn High School in Harrisburg as part of the class of 1950 and a graduate of Northhampton Community College, PennState University and Cedar Crest College. Boonie was a member of Shiremanstown United Methodist Church for over 20 years. Boonie was a life-long and huge PennState Football fan. He became a Mason on September 4, 1957 and is a member of the Harrisburg – Snyder Lodge 629 F&AM of Pennsylvania as well as the Harrisburg Consistory, the Zembo Shrine, and the Tall Cedars of Lebanon. Boonie is a fiercely proud Life-Member of the Shiremanstown Fire Company and the Camp Curtain Fire Company #13 in Harrisburg where he began serving his community as a line active fire fighter on October 5, 1950, rising to the rank of Assistant Chief. Boonie’s energy and dependability have made this world a better place and his presence will be deeply missed.
All are welcome to join Boonie’s family at his viewing on Wednesday, July 13, 2022, from 11:00 a.m. until time of service at 12:00 p.m. at Buhrig Funeral Home & Crematory, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Chaplain William Chamberlin officiating. Boonie’s family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship at Buhrig’s Gathering Place (next to the funeral home) immediately following the service. Burial will follow the reception in Rolling Green Cemetery in Camp Hill.
