Donald “Don” John Jacobs, Sr.
A Hard Working Man -
Donald “Don” John Jacobs, Sr., age 74, of Mechanicsburg, and formerly of Dupont, passed away at VibraLife on Thursday, May 30, 2019. Don was born on Sunday, December 24, 1944 in Pittston to the late Stanley Ferdinand Jacobs and Mary (Coban) Jacobs.
Don’s survivors include his wife of 51 years, Ann Marie (Traglia) Jacobs; his three sons: Donald “Don” John Jacobs, Jr. and his wife Amy, of Conifer, CO, Steven “Steve” Allen Jacobs and his wife, Caroline, of North Wales, Michael “Mike” Anthony Jacobs and his wife, Nicole, of New Cumberland; his six grandchildren: Samuel, Thomas, Nicholas, Henry, Lillian, Olivia; his sister: Janice Carroll and her husband, John, of New London, NH; and several nieces and nephews.
Don graduated from West Pittson High School as part of the class of 1962 and from Penn State University in 1969 with a Masters degree in Civil Engineering. He retired from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation in Harrisburg, after more than 30 years of service working as a Civil Engineer. Don was a member of the West Shore Elks Lodge 2257 in Camp Hill and Rotary Club of Mechanicsburg North in Wormleysburg. Don was an avid golfer, who loved to spend time on the links with his friends. He enjoyed being in the outdoors, whether gardening around his home or fishing on the rivers and streams of Pennsylvania. Don was known as a great cook and loved to make delicious meals for his family and friends. When relaxing, he often spent his time reading or listening to music. Don, along with his best friend, Bob Egley, led a fundraising drive which allowed Helping a Hero to raise over one million dollars. These funds were used to build three homes for veterans and their families in Pennsylvania. His family and friends remember his sense of humor and his fun loving personality. Don’s family will greatly miss their loving husband and caring father.
All are welcome to join Don’s family at his gathering of family and friends on Thursday, June 6, 2019, from 12:00 p.m. until time of service at 1:30 p.m. at Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Celebrant Patti Vogl officiating. Don’s family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship at DaVinci Italian Eatery following the service. Cremation was private.
