Donald “Don” Reinhard
Devoted Family Man and Wrestling Fan -
Donald “Don” Reinhard, age 74, of Myerstown , and formerly of Lower Paxton Township , died suddenly and unexpectedly on Saturday, January 10, 2015. Don was born on Saturday, September 28, 1940 in Harrisburg to the late Donald Kenneth Reinhard and Ruth Lorraine (Swope) Reinhard. In addition to his parents, Don is preceded in death by his sister, Constance Branch.
Don’s survivors include his loving wife of 50 years, Ruby Jane (Achenbach) Reinhard; his daughters: Wendy Jane Smith and her husband, Brian, and their children, Duncan and Claire, all of Michigan, Rebecca Dawn Spangler and her husband, George, and their children, Hannah and Noah, all of Mechanicsburg.
Don graduated from Central Dauphin High School as part of the class of 1958; the first graduating class to attend the Locust Lane building all three years, and where Don was a member of the school’s first wrestling team. He was a veteran of the Air National Guard and a long-time member of Colonial Park United Church of Christ in Harrisburg. Don was an outdoor activity enthusiast; including kayaking, snow skiing, golfing, snowmobiling, and pretending to hunt, but never shooting anything for 20 years. He loved to dance and make up his own steps; and he especially enjoyed jitterbugging and dancing to jazz music with his wife. He took pleasure in attending his daughters’ and grandchildren’s activities. Don was a huge fan of high school wrestling and he believed that wrestling led to his good work ethic and persevering attitude. While he found peace in the solitude of working independently, Don found enjoyment in visiting with people; sharing a special bond with his cousins and entire family.
All are welcome to join Don’s family at his gathering of family and friends on Thursday, January 15, 2015, from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 11:00 a.m. at Colonial Park United Church of Christ , 5000 Devonshire Road, Harrisburg, PA 17112; with Reverend Dr. Bonita Zobeck and Reverend George Spangler officiating. Scattering will follow in the memorial garden at Colonial Park United Church of Christ. Don’s family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship at his church following the service. Honored to be urn bearers are Don’s four grandchildren: Duncan Smith, Claire Smith, Hannah Spangler, and Noah Spangler. Cremation was private.
