Doris “Dorie” Jean Bender, age 75, of Mechanicsburg, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 27, 2016. Dorie was born on Tuesday, September 3, 1940 in Mechanicsburg to the late Harold Melville Bender and Viola (Moffitt) Bender. In addition to her parents, Dorie is preceded in death by her sister, Jeanette R. Watts.
Dorie’s survivors include her companion, Marilyn Muehler of Sarasota, FL; her niece, Sherri K. Houck of Lebanon, PA, and her nephew, Richard Watts of Mechanicsburg, PA.
Dorie graduated from Mechanicsburg High School as part of the class of 1959. She retired from State of Pennsylvania after 36 years of service working as a stenographer in the Social Security Administration and the Department of Labor and Industry. Dorie was a life-long member of the First Church of God in Mechanicsburg. She had a very deep love of animals. Dorie enjoyed bingo, board games, crossword puzzles and card games such as pinochle and canasta. She also loved to read and collect elephants. She will be remembered for not letting her handicaps limit her in what she could do.
All are welcome to join Dorie’s family at her viewing on Thursday, March 3 , 2016, from 5:00 p.m. until time of closing ceremony at 7:00 p.m. at Myers - Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055. Interment in St John’s Cemetery in Mechanicsburg will be at the family’s convenience.
